We first met 13 year old Sox in August when he was rushed into the clinic having been run over by a tractor at his home in Tucabia. Sox needed emergency stabilization and lots of pain relief to make him comfortable. X-Rays showed that Sox had a broken pelvis and had severe bruising to his groin area. Sox was somewhat lucky in that the pelvic injury would not need surgical management, just strict rest and lots of pain relief, much to our amazement within a week he was up and walking around. Once he was strong enough Sox underwent a three hour operation to repair the damage to the muscles of his groin on both sides, similar to a double hernia repair operation in humans. He bounced back from this and was running around again at home within 2 months of the original accident.
We received the following email from Sox (with a little help from his owner Lainie) and the photo of him shown below earlier this month, fully recovered from his accident:
Amazing...you are all amazing and a dedicated team. I know-because I'm alive to thank you all for giving me back my life. Having been run over by the back wheel of a tractor was really gruesome for me and my owners. Chris, Layla and the team set to work on me - operations etc and guess what guys.....your cuddles, attention, love, gave me the will to carry on in life. At 13 an old guy like me and completely deaf (which was why the tractor ran over me) I feel fantastic now. Hey! I just love the Eukanuba Adult Senior dry food - my coat is shining and I have put on weight. I guess I had a little help from all friends at the Riverbank Animal Hospital. Congratulations on your new venture in a bigger and state of the art equipment hospital for us animals.
Although we guys can't talk....my tail is wagging in thousands of thanks for being there for when I needed help.
Dr. Chris - you are a brilliant surgeon.
