Are your dogs ears are burning?

Have you noticed your dog shaking his head or rubbing his ears? You may have also detected a bad smell or that the ears are sore to touch. These are all sure signs of a major ear problem. Underlying allergies can make ear problems an ongoing battle in summer as when ears become irritated, constant itching makes them red and sore. Yeast love warm, dark and damp conditions, and inflamed ears are the perfect environment for yeast and bacteria to reproduce.

What to watch out for:

• Scratching or rubbing the ears
• Head shaking
• An abnormal odour or discharge from the ear
• Pain when you manipulate the ear
• Redness and swelling of the external ear canal

If your pet has sore, itchy or smelly ears, call us for an appointment on 6642 3083 as the sooner we start treatment the better. Ask us about what to use for regular ear cleaning maintenance, especially if your dog loves to swim, prevention is always better than cure!

Paralysis ticks are active

The potentially fatal paralysis ticks are out and about again in the Clarence Valley area.

Please make sure you have tick prevention under control. Ask us about the best prevention for your pet. It is also a great idea to take out pet insurance to cover you against the potential cost of tick paralysis treatment.

Signs of tick paralysis include weakness, vomiting, a gagging cough, labored breathing.

If your pet develops tick paralysis symptoms do not waste any time, contact us immediately on 6643 1700 for treatment day or night.

Desexing Dogs and Cats; it is the Responsible Thing to Do!
Our clients often have a range of questions relating to desexing their pet. Will it change my pet’s personality? (Answer: No) Will my pet still grow to normal size? (Answer: Yes)  We are happy to answer any question you have but here are some basic facts.

Desexing also known as neutering (or a spey in females and castration in males), involves removing the reproductive organs. Desexing not only prevents unwanted litters but it benefits your dog or cat.

Your pet is less likely to:
• wander or get into fights
• to spray and mark their territory
• to suffer from anti-social behaviour

Pets that are desexed:
• can live longer, healthier lives, reduced risk of certain cancers
• are generally more affectionate and better companions
Desexing your pet is the responsible thing to do! If your pet is not yet desexed phone us on 6642 3083 for more information or to book you pet in for desexing, the procedure is done as a day surgery.
